Rebecca Christie, Human Rights Specialist from the Department of Developmental Disabilities’ Northeast Region, will be focusing on the best ways for us to advocate for the rights which our children deserve and to which they are entitled while we concurrently respect and listen to what our loved ones desire for themselves. To quote from Human Rights Resources for Families

(a 2017 DDS publication), “DDS provides specialized services to give individuals with intellectual disabilities supports that they need and opportunities to live the way they choose.“

Please join us as we discuss and learn about resources that are available to help empower our loved ones to lead a life of dignity, safety, and opportunity.

Rebecca Christie has been employed by DDS since 1996, working 16 years as a Service Coordinator in the North Shore Area Office, then since 2012 in her current position as the Human Rights Specialist in the Northeast region of DDS.  Becky has over 45 years of experience in the field of developmental disabilities, with a BS in Special Education, an Associate degree-Paralegal and a Juris Doctor.  She provides Human Rights training to individuals supported by DDS along with Basic Human Rights and Human Rights Officer/Advocate training to staff employed in the provider community.   She also works closely with providers and families/guardians to resolve any issues that may arise. She is active in the city government in Salem and assists self-advocates regularly in contacting both local and state officials to voice their concerns. In her non-work life, Becky is a member of Sounds of the Seacoast, a women’s barbershop chorus and the Ukeladies, a New Hampshire ukulele group.
